How to Reduce Ageing Skin: Tips for Anti Ageing Skin

Is  your skin losing its elasticity and natural radiance? Is there a way to prevent or even reverse the signs of ageing on your skin?

The beauty industry offers a plethora of products and treatments that claim to help with ageing skin. But with so many options, it can be overwhelming to figure out which ones actually work.

The key to stopping ageing skin is understanding the root causes and taking preventive measures. By incorporating simple lifestyle changes and effective skincare routines, we can slow down the ageing process and maintain youthful-looking skin. In this blog, we will explore the science behind your ageing skin, the most effective ways to stop ageing skin and achieve a healthy, glowing complexion.

As we age, our skin loses its elasticity, becomes thinner, and develops wrinkles and fine lines. However, there are steps we can take to slow down the ageing process and keep your skin looking youthful and radiant for as long as possible.

Why does your skin age and what can you do about it?

Hormonal Changes

Hyaluronic acid is crucial for your skin. It acts like a water magnet, filling the space between collagen and elastin fibers in the dermis. This helps to hydrate and plump your skin, giving it a juicy, flawless look. But as your skin ages, you produce less hyaluronic acid, which means more water evaporates from your skin. That's why your skin can start to feel dry and dull. And if you don't take care of it, you may  end up with more wrinkles, dryness, and decreased firmness, thickness, and elasticity. That's where humectants come in - like hyaluronic acid, urea, and glycerine. They're essential for anti-ageing skincare!

Loss of collagen

Collagen is a crucial protein for your skin. It helps keep your dermis strong and resilient. But as we get older, the rate of collagen production slows down, while the breakdown speeds up. It further leads to wrinkles and sagging.

Reactive skin takes longer to recover

The reduction in concentration of fats can create a drier skin and a less protective skin barrier. This reduces epidermal barrier function.

Increased hyperpigmentation

As you age the number of melanocytes  decreases  but the remaining ones increase in size. This is why your skin looks paler with large pigmented spots. Premature skin ageing is caused by both intrinsic and extrinsic factors.

Skin is constantly being damaged from UV rays in your daily life. Antioxidants neutralize free radicals, reducing damage from the sun’s radiation. You can introduce antioxidants to your body either topically from skincare or directly from food.

Add green tea extracts, liquorice extract, ferulic acid and niacinamide as other amazing antioxidants. Your skin needs both water soluble antioxidants such as vitamins A and C to protect cytoplasm in cells and fat-soluble antioxidants to protect the cell membranes such as Vitamin E.  Eat foods that are rich in antioxidants such as Wheatgrass juice, freshly squeezed juices, grapes (contains resveratrol)etc.

Reduce inflammation

Chronic inflammation speeds up the ageing process.  It's because it triggers free radicals that activate the inflammatory cascade. And unfortunately, this process ends with enzymes breaking down your precious collagen and elastin, which are responsible for giving your skin that plump look.

But wait, there's good news! You can reduce your sugar intake to help maintain your collagen's elasticity. Plus, sugar also increases inflammation in the body.

And don't forget to add some anti-inflammatory foods to your diet, like ginger, onion, and garlic. These delicious ingredients can help keep your skin looking youthful and vibrant.

Reduce Stress level

Stress isn't just bad for your mind, it's bad for your skin too. It can make you look older and cause inflammation. When you're stressed, your body produces cortisol and adrenaline, which can raise your blood sugar and insulin levels. This can lead to dry, dull skin. Lack of sleep can also make things worse by causing cortisol levels to rise. So, make sure you're getting enough beauty sleep! Stress can also make any existing skin conditions worse, so it's important to keep it under control.

Anti ageing Step-by-step routine

Your skincare products must include these ingredients;

  • Vitamin A,B,C and E
  • Green Tea extract
  • Liquorice extract
  • Ferulic acid
  • Ergothioneine

The products should ideally be

  • Fragrance free
  • Free from drying alcohols
  • Free of essential oils
  • Avoid harsh acids

AM Routine

Step 1

Start your day off right with a micellar gel cleanser. This will wash away any actives from the night before and get rid of any dirt lingering on your skin. But wait, don't use soap or sodium lauryl sulfate - those can be too harsh on your skin. Stick with a gentle micellar gel for a fresh and clean start to your day!

Step 2

When it comes to moisturizing, it's important to use a fatty emollient along with humectants like ceramides, peptides, urea, and hyaluronic acid. These ingredients can help keep your skin hydrated and healthy.

Step 3

To prevent melasma, use a physical SPF 50 with zinc oxide. Antioxidants with a skin-neutral pH, such as vitamin E, green tea extract, or resveratrol, can help mop up free radicals that develop during the day.

PM Routine

Step 1

Double cleanse. Use an oil cleanser first to melt away makeup and sunscreen , then use a micellar gel wash to cleanse and hydrate your skin.

Step 2

Apply a light, hydrating non-alcohol toner with humectants, soothers and brighteners such as Centella Asiatica, allantoin, urea , panthenol and niacinamide.

Step 3

Use a gentle AHA exfoliator that includes mandelic or lactic acid. Avoid a product that includes over 5% glycolic as an exfoliator.

Step 4

Apply an antioxidant serum with Vitamin A,C and E and green tea extract

Step 5

Next top off with a moisturizer that contains peptides and ceramides.

Step 6

Lastly, finish with a facial oil, such as squalene, marula oil, hemp seed oil or rosehip oil. Actives within the product should include tetrahexyldecyl ascorbate, retinaldehyde, retinol and retinyl palmitate, Coenzyme Q10, plus antioxidants

Why does oily skin age differently than dry skin?

When it comes to ageing, oily skin may appear to age less than dry skin. This is due to the fact that oily skin tends to be thicker, which is often hereditary. However, thicker skin also has a tendency to form more pronounced and deeper expression lines. On the other hand, oily skin has a protective layer of sebum and is less likely to suffer from dehydration or barrier function damage. This can make wrinkles and rough skin texture appear less severe.

Here are some ways to protect your skin from ageing;

  1. Protect Your Skin from Sun Damage

Sun damage is a primary cause of premature ageing. The sun's UV rays can harm collagen fibers in the skin, which leads to wrinkles, fine lines, and age spots. To prevent sun damage, it's essential to wear sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher every day, including on cloudy days. You should also wear protective clothing, like hats and long-sleeved shirts, and avoid prolonged sun exposure during peak hours. Apply Ningen sun care cream with SPF 60 at least  30 minutes prior to leaving your home. To know more on why it is essential to apply sunscreen read here

  1. Stay Hydrated

Dehydration can cause your skin to become dry and dull, making it more prone to wrinkles and fine lines. Therefore, it is essential to drink plenty of water throughout the day to keep your skin hydrated and plump. You can also incorporate foods rich in water, such as cucumbers, watermelon, and tomatoes, into your diet to help hydrate your skin from the inside out. Try Ningen Orchid Anti Wrinkle Cream to hydrate and prevent your skin from wrinkles.

  1. Maintain a Healthy Diet

Your diet can play a significant role in the health and appearance of your skin. Eating a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and healthy fats can provide your skin with the nutrients it needs to stay healthy and youthful. Foods such as blueberries, spinach, avocado, and salmon are all great choices for maintaining healthy, youthful skin.

  1. Get Enough Sleep

Sleep is essential for maintaining healthy skin. Lack of sleep can lead to dark circles, puffy eyes, and dull skin. Therefore, it is crucial to get enough sleep every night to give your skin time to repair and regenerate. The recommended amount of sleep for adults is between 7-9 hours per night.

  1. Avoid Smoking

Smoking is one of the most damageing habits for your skin. It can cause your skin to lose its elasticity, leading to wrinkles and fine lines. Smoking can also damage the collagen fibers in your skin, causing it to become thin and fragile. Therefore, quitting smoking can help prevent premature ageing and keep your skin looking healthy and youthful.

  1. Use Anti-ageing Skincare Products

Using anti-ageing skincare products can help prevent and reduce the signs of ageing. Look for products that contain ingredients such as retinol, vitamin C, and hyaluronic acid, which can help improve the texture and tone of your skin. To prevent your skin from ageing apply Ningen Vitamin C & E face serum . Additionally, using a good moisturizer can help keep your skin hydrated and plump, reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

  1. Manage Stress

Stress can have a negative impact on your skin, causing it to become dull and prone to breakouts. Therefore, it is essential to find ways to manage stress in your life. Engageing in activities such as yoga, meditation, and exercise can help reduce stress and promote healthy skin.

  1. Scrubbing is essential

Exfoliation helps to remove dead skin cells from the surface of the skin, which can clog pores and make the skin look dull and aged. By removing these dead skin cells, exfoliation can help to stimulate the production of new skin cells, which can improve the overall appearance and texture of the skin. It also  helps to increase blood flow to the skin, which can improve the delivery of essential nutrients and oxygen to the skin cells. This can help to promote healthy, youthful-looking skin and may help to slow down the ageing process. However, it is important to note that exfoliation should be done in moderation and with care, as over-exfoliation can actually damage the skin and cause irritation and inflammation. Include Ningen Sunflower De tan Scrub or Ningen Orange and Apricot Scrub for incredible exfoliation  experience!

  1. Avoid Harsh Chemicals

Harsh chemicals can damage your skin, causing it to become dry, irritated, and prone to breakouts. Therefore, it is crucial to avoid using products that contain harsh chemicals such as sulfates, parabens, and fragrances. Instead, opt for products that are gentle and formulated for sensitive skin. Choose Ningen Face care products which work gently and effectively on your skin.

In conclusion, there are several steps you can take to stop ageing skin and maintain a healthy, youthful complexion. Protecting your skin from sun damage, staying hydrated, maintaining a healthy diet, getting enough sleep, avoiding smoking. A youthful glow is for everybody - whatever your age.
